THE STORY OF BENNIE'S PLACE

Bennie’s Place was born from a legacy of care.

It is named after my grandmother, Bennie—a woman who never met a stranger. As a hostess, she had a rare gift: making everyone feel welcome, equal, and seen. No matter who you were or where you came from, when you walked into her space, you mattered. She believed that dignity was not something to be earned, but something every person deserved.

That belief became the foundation of Bennie’s Place.

Founded in 2020, Bennie’s Place began with a simple but powerful mission: to provide safe housing and meaningful support to people who too often fall through the cracks. At a time when isolation, housing instability, and unmet mental health needs were growing, we opened our doors to those seeking stability, recovery, and a second chance.

We work primarily with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and mental health challenges, as well as people with intellectual disabilities or developmental delays. Many of the individuals we serve have faced long periods of homelessness, trauma, or systemic barriers that made traditional housing and care difficult to access. At Benny’s Place, we meet people where they are—with compassion, patience, and respect.

Our homes are more than just a place to sleep. They are spaces of healing, accountability, and hope. We help residents connect to care coordination and vital community resources, including behavioral health services, recovery support, medical care, and social services. By working alongside community partners, we strive to create pathways toward long-term stability and independence.

At its heart, Bennie’s Place is about restoring dignity. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe enough to heal, supported enough to grow, and valued simply because they are human.

Just like Bennie would have wanted.
